An independent, non-profit, non-partisan institution dedicated to empowering African youth through research, education and policy advocacy — since 2018.
The Pan African Youth Institute (PAYI) is Africa’s premier youth-based research and policy think tank — an independent, non-profit, non-partisan and non-religious institution dedicated to empowering African youth to shape the development of their continent.
Founded in 2018, PAYI empowers youth to chart their own path through rigorous education, research, policy analysis and advocacy. With 65% of Africa under 35, we believe youth must not only be heard — but lead.

To empower and resource the youth through education and research; to influence policies and catalyze youth participation in national, regional and international development; and to promote the implementation of continental development frameworks among the youth.
An independent, resourced and intellectually open African youth making objective, fearless and courageous contributions to national, regional and global policies — a generation that leads Africa’s transformation from the front.
The three pillars of our identity and the promise we make to every young African.
Free from political, commercial or religious influence in all our research, advocacy and programming.
Speaking truth to power without fear or favour, always in the interest of Africa’s youth.
Solutions-focused, evidence-based contributions to development discourse. We build, not just critique.
Amplifying all African youth voices regardless of gender, nationality, background or ability.
Transparent, honest and accountable in everything we do — from finances to our findings.
Rigorous, high-quality research and programming that sets continental standards.
Six years of building Africa’s premier youth think tank

PAYI publishes its inaugural series of policy briefs and research papers, establishing its voice in continental policy discourse.
PAYI pivots to virtual programming, significantly expanding its reach. The PAYI Community platform connects youth researchers across Africa.
